I’m very scared

May 30, 2008

Of John McCain, which is something I’ll probably get to later.  I spent a good 15 minutes watching videos on youtube of him lying and gawking and being a general idiot.  But then I found this video, this badly-photo-shopped gem, that gives a little different perspective on the whole political race 2k8.

Let’s get it on.

Whoa, another post, and so fast…means I’m bored. And have time to watch nearly 50 (I skipped some) commercial parodies. The complete list is at http://www.nerve.com/dispatches/nerveeditors/50GreatestCommercialParodies/01/ but I’ve picked my top three favorites to share. They’re well worth the < 2 minutes each.

# 49: Levitol

This one should have been much higher on the list…making fun of the conversation that might happen if you “ask your doctor if this medication is right for you”.

# 26: John Madden for Vagicil

Just as ridiculous as John Madden himself.

# 12: G-R-R-R-R Detergent with Lily Tomlin

Turns out, Lily Tomlin’s been funny for over 30 years.

I’ve been galavanting around youtube all morning, listening to whatever comes up next. I’ve fallen in love (yet again) with Hall and Oates…Maneater and Rich Girl are my favorites:

(Confession: I had no idea they sang this until about…15 minutes ago)

The way they sing Rich Girl reminds me of the way that Barenaked Ladies sing most of their songs–they’re a little tongue-in-cheek about the whole message, and the song is sung in such an upbeat way that I’m not convinced that she’s actually gone too far, or that relying on the old man’s money is really a bitch…maybe I’m misinterpreting, but it sounds to me like she’ll go far, and be strong, without hurting anyone.

Now I’m listening to some of their other songs, and they’re a little too 80’s adult contemporary/soft rock-y. So I’d recommend just sticking to the basics…unless you want to hear lyrics like “one on one/i wanna play my game tonight/one on one my love/one on one i wanna play my game tonight/one on one so slow”. If you do, I’m not sure we can be friends.

I think it’s a penetration win, personally.

Telemarketing

May 28, 2008

I was a telemarketer in high school for about 11 total months (during my last semester of high school and the two summers after).  There are two telemarketing companies in my town.  To make a gross generalization, one’s full of hippies, and one’s full of gangsters.  Although I’m more hippie than gangster, turns out the gangsters make more money, and I was also an economics major.  So I work with people that I can’t quite relate to, calling people we mostly annoy.  I honestly enjoy all of it.

Today was my first day of training, and it was just as wonderfully ridiculous as I remembered.

Some highlights:

1. I sat down next to two women who didn’t know each other.  Their first conversation was about getting out of prison (one in ‘97, and the other six months ago).  I had nothing to say.  They were not impressed.

2. Getting off break, one guy sighed that he could really use a fatty right about now.  When asked by the girl who’d just gotten out of prison why he hadn’t smoked up on break, his response was that he wanted to be on top of things for his first day of training at least.  But that he was really angry about it.  I wonder if he’ll be back tomorrow…

Memorial Day

May 27, 2008

Does anyone actually do anything on Memorial Day?  I don’t.

I did link this to all my real-life friends.  Hello, friends.

I was looking around on Flickr, thinking about starting an account of my own (coming soon, probably), and the idea that you can search by place really intrigued me.  When I tried, one of the random places Flickr suggested was Budapest, Hungary, which I’d visited last spring to see some friends while we were all studying abroad.  And one of the featured photos was this one, of Budapest’s Opera House.

Budapest Opera House

It’s gorgeous, right?  We spent about 4 USD each to sit in the second balcony.  It would have been worth the four dollars just to see the inside of the building, but we also saw Romeo and Juliet as a ballet.  The music was wonderful, the dancers were amazing (I’m always amazed by dancers, though, because I can’t imagine my own body contorting like theirs), and the storyline was classic and easy to follow.  It was so much fun, and this photo brought back so many memories of that trip.

All Systems Go

May 24, 2008

I started this blog as a place to capture all the crazy things I find on the internet–partly as an archive for myself, and partly as a way to stand on my own little soapbox and tell the world what I think is funny and interesting. Which means that the whole thing will probably be pretty random.

To keep this short and sweet, I’m going to wrap up now with my all-time favorite youtube video:
